Uriel Kramer
My name is Uriel Kramer, and I have been photographing people since 2005. While my work has spanned across different cultures and places over the last two decades, it remains anchored in a singular pursuit: the search for what remains beneath the surface. I am looking for that quiet presence, the unguarded moment, and the essence of a person that resists a simple definition.
When I started, I just knew how to take a nice picture. But slowly, the people I photographed became my greatest teachers. They showed me that a portrait is much more than a technical task; it is a deeply human experience. I've come to realize that I'm not looking for the most "flattering" or perfect image. Instead, I'm looking for authenticity. When someone is truly themselves in front of the camera, it's like a sunbeam breaking through the clouds. In those moments, the portrait becomes a "magic mirror," showing you a part of yourself that is eternal—perhaps even the soul.
Because of this, I approach each portrait as a meeting, not a session. The connection we share is crucial to me; I feel I need to "fall in love" with the people I photograph to truly see them. That is why I always want to talk with you before I ever pick up the camera. This is a human project long before it is an artistic one.
My goal is to create images that do not merely represent a person, but endure beyond them. When I visit museums and see art from hundreds of years ago, I am reminded that we are trying to distill something human into a form that can outlive time. By the end of our time together, I want us both to feel like we've been on a journey—one that leaves you remembering beautiful things about yourself that you might have forgotten.
